Eboue so grateful to Gunners family

The Ivory Coast international, 26, was part of the side which lost to Barcelona in Paris four years ago, winning a controversial free-kick which led to Sol Campbell's opening goal before goalkeeper Jens Lehmann was then sent off and the 10 men were eventually beaten. Eboue has enjoyed something of a renaissance since being ironically cheered by sections of the Emirates Stadium crowd when substituted against Wigan in December 2008. However, despite reports linking the utility man with a move to both Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid, Eboue feels there is no better club than Arsenal with which to fulfil his ambitions. "For me I am very focused because I know this team because I played in the final in 2006," said Eboue, who because of injury to both Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky looks set to be in the starting line-up again on Tuesday night for the Champions League Group H clash at AZ Alkmaar. Eboue marked his new-found status as cult figure with Gunners supporters when he netted against Wigan in this season's home fixture. "For me I just want to say thank you to my boss and the fans because they help me a lot," said Eboue. "I was very disappointed with my performance last season, but now I feel I am doing very well. "I want to give my best when I play for myself and the fans." Arsenal are the leading scorers in the English top flight, with a record 27 goals from the first eight matches. Wenger, though, feels it is also his team's hard work when not in possession which has helped their progress. "If we score goals, it is because we have the ball. To have the ball, you need to defend," he said. "That is why I believe we have a good team ethic, a good working attitude together. "We all play on the same wavelength, which is why everybody scores." With two wins already in Group H, the first coming after trailing 2-0 at Standard Liege inside the opening five minutes, Arsenal - who have chalked up seven successive victories - could all but secure a place in the knockout stages on Tuesday night. AZ, now coached by Dutch legend Ronald Koeman, may have struggled for the consistency which secured last season's Eredivisie title, but they will defend a fine record of just one home defeat from 34 European ties. Wenger, however, believes this young side can come of age in 2010. "I believe this team has a big future," declared the Arsenal manager, who celebrates his 60th birthday later this week. "We have improved the belief and results. "However, we know we have not won anything yet, it is all in front of us and that is what we want to show this season." Walcott, meanwhile, could be out for up to a month after a scan confirmed medial knee ligament damage following a hefty challenge by Birmingham defender Liam Ridgewell during Saturday's Premier League win at the Emirates Stadium.
