Emmanuel Eboue looks set to stay at Arsenal after Atletico Madrid joined Fiorentina in abandoning their pursuit of the Ivory Coast international. The Gunners had insisted on around £9million for the 26-year-old, who divided opion at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would be reluctant to lose the versatile Eboue so close to the start of the season, with Samir Nasri and Tomas Rosicky both sidelined through injury. Atletico have turned their attentions to Ajax right-back Gregory van der Wiel as an alternative and they will also try to sign Marseille's Mathieu Valbuena, who has been linked to several English clubs. Valbuena, 24, has already turned down Zenit St Petersburg after being told he can leave Marseille and has also been linked to Liverpool, Everton, Aston Villa and Arsenal among others this summer.
