Djourou faces lengthy lay-off
07 Sep 2009 - 08:03:45
Arsenal have suffered a major injury blow after it was confirmed that the Switzerland international Johan Djourou faces six months on the sidelines.
The 22-year-old has been forced to have knee surgery after picking up the injury while on international duty last month, ahead of the friendly against Italy.
The Swiss Football Federation have announced that Djourou is likely to be out of action until next March.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger recently indicated he thought the defender would return to action by the beginning of October.
Djourou has featured in 77 first-team games for Wenger's side since making his debut almost five years ago and also played in 13 games during a loan spell with Birmingham City in the first half of the 2007-08 campaign.
