Daniel Agger could be the surprise replacement for Vermaelen

This will come as something of a surprise to many but the 29-year-old centre-back who had been tipped to return to his former club Bronby in Denmark could instead head to London to replace Vermaelen at Arsenal.

Reports in the Sun suggest that the player faces an uncertain future at Anfield following the arrival of the £20m Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren from Southampton. The player has been a long-term fixture for Liverpool but injuries and a drop in form has seen him lose his place in the starting line-up.

The Gunners are reportedly coming to the rescue and are preparing a bid to bring the player to the Emirates but may face competition from Barca as well as Bronby for the £12m-rated Dane.

Daniel Munthe Agger joined Liverpool in 2006 and has gone on to make 175 appearances for the Anfield club and scored 9 goals. 2013-14 was a difficult season where his appearences dropped to 20 in the league after making 35 in the 2012-13 season.

Agger has numerous tattoos which include ”YNWA” on the fingers of his right hand, referencing of course the LFC anthem. In 2013 Agger became vice-captain and shortly after reports surfaced of interest from Barcelona he informed the club that whilst he was still wanted, he would not seek to leave stated Brendan Rodgers.

It would seem that Agger, if the reports are true may have been told that to play football his future lies in a new direction and he certainly isn’t without admirers for his cultured defensive play.
