Cole eyes playing return
18 Aug 2006 - 11:39:38
Wantaway Arsenal left-back Ashley Cole has made himself available for selection this weekend, despite having made clear his desire to quit the club as soon as possible.
The England ace has fallen out with the Gunners hierarchy after being caught talking to rivals Chelsea last year and has decided to leave, rather than sign a new long-term contract with Arsenal.
However, with a move to the Blues having become less likely, Cole has made himself available to face Aston Villa.
A statement from Cole on the Stellar Group website read: "I have made myself available for selection this weekend.
"It is now up to the manager whether he decides to play me. I maintain I have no problem with the fans and the manager.
"They've been very supportive of me throughout my career. I hope the fans understand where my grievances lie."
Cole's chances of featuring seem slim however, with boss Wenger adding: "I do not think he will be in for the game at the weekend."
