Clichy tackle angers Wenger
21 Sep 2008 - 11:27:41
Arsene Wenger condemned Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies after his tackle left Gael Clichy nursing a shin injury during Saturday's 3-1 victory for Arsenal.
The French full-back was taken to hospital for X-rays on his leg after Davies' 45th minute tackle forced him off the pitch.
Wenger was delighted with the performance which saw his side go top of the table, but admitted the gloss had been taken off the victory by the concern over Clichy.
"It it a shin injury which means the tackle was quite high," he claimed.
"Was it an accident? Was it mistimed? Only Davies can answer that.
"I did not really see the impact, so I have to watch it on video. We except the physical challenge and we respond well to it.
"We have no problem with a physical game. It is part of the charm of the game but kicking someone is not in the rules.
"We were strong mentally, physically and technically. It was a complete performance."
