Clichy slams Davies challenge
27 Sep 2008 - 10:20:08
Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy has admitted that he feared he had suffered a serious injury in the 3-1 win at Bolton Wanderers last weekend.
Clichy was clattered by a late challenge from Trotters striker Kevin Davies and had to be replaced immediately, amid fears that he had suffered a broken left shin.
However, the results of x-rays and scans have left Clichy in the clear, with severe bruising the most serious damage.
Clichy told the club's official website: "I couldn't move, the doctor could not touch it and we have lost a player like this before, so that's on your mind.
"I have been really lucky n this challenge. I am lucky to be here and to be playing on Saturday.
"I have seen it again many times. The only thing I can say is that it was a stupid challenge. I don't understand how people can say it's a good challenge.
"I don't the blame the referee and it's difficult for referees, but we had a meeting at the start of the season with the referees and they were saying that bad challenges would be punished with a red card.
"He got the ball of course, but to allow a player like this to carry on playing is really difficult."
