Arsenal left-back Gael Clichy will miss the rest of the season due to a back injury.
The 23-year-old Frenchman has not featured since the 1-1 draw at Villarreal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final and will be allowed to rest up in preparation for next season.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger told the club's official website: "It is finished for Gael.
"We would have put a little pressure on the recovery period had we gone to the Champions League final. But now we will not take a gamble."
Meanwhile, Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has admitted that his side need to improve next term, with their Champions League semi-final defeat to Manchester United ensuring a fourth successive season without silverware.
He commented: "We have gone 21 consecutive games without being beaten in the League and that shows from the beginning to the end we have improved a lot.
"Fourth spot for Arsenal, I do not think is good enough. We have not been at the level that everyone expected for Arsenal Football Club that is for sure.
"We have to try to finish the season as well as we can and be ready for next summer, because as we have seen this year the start of the season is really important."
