Clichy: No excuse for not winning title
Arsenal defender Gael Clichy insists the Gunners will have no excuses if they fail to win the Premier League title this season.[LNB] The French full-back is the only surviving member of the Gunners squad that lifted their last league crown, back in 2004.[LNB]Manager Arsene Wenger has strengthened his squad with the summer signings of Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux and French defender Laurent Koscielny from Lorient.[LNB]Barcelona revealed today that Arsenal have refused to even enter into negotiations over the sale of World Cup-winning midfielder Cesc Fabregas.[LNB]And Clichy said: "I remember a few years ago saying it was a time for Arsenal to win and still nothing happened.[LNB]"I really hope this year can be a good one and now we cannot hide behind anything - the age or the experience. We have everything to do it - so let's do it.[LNB]"It is always at the end of season that we are not that far (behind) and Arsenal had a good season but we didn't win anything.[LNB]"We have to ask ourselves the right questions, do we want to be a good team or to win trophies? To win trophies we have to be the best and that is what we are trying to do from now on.[LNB]"We want to show the fans that we believe in ourselves."[LNB]Clichy and his French colleagues Bacary Sagna and Abou Diaby have been relishing life back with Arsenal, on the club's pre-season training camp in Austris following a turbulent summer.[LNB]France crashed out of the World Cup in the group stages after the players had boycotted training in protest after Nicolas Anelka was sent home.[LNB]The new France coach Laurent Blanc suspended the whole 23-man squad for the friendly against Norway in Oslo on August 11.[LNB]Diaby told Arsenal TV: "We really need to get ready for the season and start strongly. At some point we try to forget what happened at the World Cup.[LNB]"People expected more from us. Now they want us to show what we can do so it is a really important season."
