Clichy: Hansen blast helped us out

The former Liverpool and Scotland centre-back claimed the Gunners' defending in the 3-1 home defeat by Manchester United earlier this month was the worst he had seen from the club in 30 years. [LNB]Clichy was in that side at the Emirates and insists they have learned from that below-par performance.[LNB]And while consecutive clean-sheets in the their two most recent Premier League games against Liverpool and Sunderland would appear to back that up, Clichy knows there is still room for further improvements in the weeks to come.[LNB]He told the Daily Star: "The criticism didn't hurt but, of course, if people question your ability, you have to ask yourself the question. [LNB]"Of course, you can always do better, but what we did was make individual mistakes. I was part of this against United. [LNB]"It's always easy to say if we can stop these mistakes we will be a better team but that's the truth. [LNB]"If you can avoid these mistakes you can finish the game or maybe after an hour, you're still 0-0 and it's another game. [LNB]"When you play against Manchester and you make two mistakes in the first hour and you find yourself 2-0 behind, it's always going to be difficult. [LNB]"I don't want to hide behind this but if we can avoid those kind of individual mistakes I think we can be even better."[LNB]The France international struggled to regain top form in the weeks after making his return from a lengthy back injury, but revealed his confidence was boosted by a chat with manager Arsene Wenger.[LNB]He said: "We did speak about it, but we speak every day. That's why he's earning big money and that's why we call him the boss.[LNB]"He's the one to give advice and to tell you if you're not doing well in training or in a game. [LNB]"I face him every day because, even if I've not been playing in my best form, he's still playing me, which shows me he's got confidence in me. [LNB]"It's always difficult to come back from injury but once you're on the pitch you can't find the excuse: 'Oh, I've been out with injury'. If you're there you have to perform. If you don't perform, people will judge your game in 90 minutes."[LNB][LNB]
