Chelsea's bore draw with Arsenal shows why Wenger was right not to sign Fabregas

As much as the Gunners may have been unable to conjure a victory against a resilient Chelsea, Arsene Wenger’s ideology was vindicated in that his former player Cesc Fabregas failed to show in any way why Arsenal should have made a Summer move for him when he became available. Below are three reasons why he would not have been a worthwhile re-signing for Arsenal.

1) Arsenal just do not have the striker to finish his chances

The Spaniard may be one of the most creative players of our generation but it isn’t any striker who will be able to finish off his passes. Diego Costa has finished off over half of Cesc Fabregas’ assists and his absence has also seen a notable decline in chances created by the midfield maestro. As much as Arsene Wenger may not have desired such a complication, Arsenal just do not have the kind of forward to convert the quality of passes that Fabregas produces.

2) Cesc Fabregas just isn't that good

There was a time when he could have easily passed off as the best midfielder in the Premier League but his rather unproductive stint at Barcelona seems to have diminished his talents considerably. He is decidedly slower, more cynical, less creative and even less portent in front of goal such that Arsenal have been better off not spending a considerable amount of money on what can be called damaged and disloyal goods.

3) There were better alternatives

A considerable number of midfielders were traded over the entirety of the Transfer Window and the likes of Alexis Sanchez. Toni Kroos and Xabi Alonso were certainly more capable candidates than Fabregas for the Arsenal shirt. The guy was a Barcelona reject at the time, probably at par with the likes of Alex Song and certainly not fitting in a Gunners team that for years now has been regarded as a dominating force in midfield strength.

If ever there were any doubts that Mr Wenger had made the right decision in not signing Cesc, his performance against his former team aside from trying to coax the referee into awarding a penalty was far from satisfactory with him managing very little if any control of the game. At times he even seemed confused and lost which is definitely not what an Arsenal midfield can accommodate.
