Chelsea up the stakes to bring Ajax striker Suarez to Stamford Bridge

Ajax striker Luis Suarez has jumped to the top of Chelsea's January shopping list as boss Carlo Ancelotti lines up new recruits to see the club through a potential transfer ban.[LNB]Chelsea's appeal against the FIFA suspension over the Gael Kakuta affair will be heard in mid-January at the earliest and the Premier League leaders will up the stakes to bring in their main targets next month.[LNB]Suarez, 22, would cost close to £30million and has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham.[LNB] Top target: Suarez has plenty of admirers across the big European leagues[LNB]But, according to The Independent, Chelsea, who will also go for Atletico Madrid forward Sergio Aguero and Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell, are prepared to take a risk on the player sooner rather than later because they could be precluded from the transfer market in the summer.[LNB] Daniel Fonseca, the former Uruguay striker who is now an agent,said this week a deal had been struck with Chelsea to give them firstrefusal on Suarez, one of his clients.[LNB] Ajax say nodeal is in place with Chelsea and Suarez, who has been outstanding this season, has insisted he will stay in Holland at least until the summer. [LNB]  However, if he does move, he would be available to play in the latter stages of the Champions League, even though he has represented Ajax in the Europa League this season. [LNB]A Champions League club who sign a player in January can register him to play in the knockout stages even if he has already played in the other competition.
