Champions League live: Chelsea v Marseille, Partizan Belgrade v Arsenal

28 September 2010 19:41
After the disappointment of defeat in the Premier League last weekend, Chelsea and Arsenal will both look to bounce back instantly in the Champions League against Marseille and Partizan Belgrade respectively. Follow live coverage of tonight's events as they unfold with Sportsmail.[LNB] Champions League 7.45pmChelsea 2-0 Marseille[LNB]Belgrade 1-1 Arsenal [LNB]20.33: Interesting half of football, Chelsea have kept a menacing if not threatining Marseille at arms length but that equaliser at Belgrade brought some belief back in to the home side and Arsenal, haven woken up after scoring, have a game on their hands.[LNB]20.31: Half-time: Partizan Belgrade 1-1 Arsenal[LNB]20.30: Half-time: Chelsea 2-0 Marseille[LNB]20.28: Just looking at that penalty incident at Belgrade again, Denilson really should get his arm out the way, a soft penalty to give away.[LNB]20.26: Approaching half-time in both matches, fair to say Chelsea are making light work of it at the Bridge. Arsenal have a game on their hands in Belgrade though, end to end stuff.[LNB]20.23: Arsenal likewise are trying to regain their superiority in Belgrade and have not looked like crumbling since the equaliser.[LNB]20.20: To their credit, Marseille are really trying to play football at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea have looked comfortable throughout.[LNB]20.18: GOAL! Partizan Belgrade 1-1 Arsenal[LNB]The stadium erupts as Cleo sends Fabianksi the wrong way from the penalty spot to send the home fans absolutely crazy.[LNB]The penalty was given for handball after Denilson seemed to clumsily handle the ball in the box. I say seemed it does not look intentional.[LNB]20.17: PENALTY (Partizan Belgrade)[LNB]20.15: During that carnage at Stamford Bridge, Andrey Arshavin had a beautifully weighted lobe over the keeper cleared off the line as Arsenal continue to dominate.[LNB]20.13: GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 Marseille[LNB]Stepahne Mbia handles a cross in the box, and Nicolas Anelka in the casual fashion that only he can, converts the spot-kick.[LNB]20.12: PENALTY (Chelsea)[LNB]20.11: Half-chance that. Benoit Cheyrou nearly makes up for his laughable attempt at trying to defend a corner by firing just over with a first time effort on the edge of the 18-yard box.[LNB]20.08: Carnage in the Chelsea penalty box, a corner flies in and nobody gets clean contact on it as hands and feet fly everywhere like one of those cartoon dust ups. Cech bravely decides to jump for the ball and clutches at it like a hot water bottle as Chelsea survive.[LNB]20.06: What a difference a goal makes. Partizan are looking the weaker side now as Arsenal seem to found their confidence.[LNB]20.04: Oh and that light is back on again. Top news from elsewhere in the Champions League, Basel currently lead Bayern Munich 1-0 in Switzerland, top result that would be.[LNB] Double act: Arshavin and Wilshere linked well for Arsenal's opener[LNB]20.00: GOAL! Partizan Belgrade 0-1 Arsenal[LNB]This Jack WIlshere lad is pretty special, he storms in to the box and after being completely surrounded by Partizan defenders plays lays a cheeky pass back to Andrey Arshavin, who started the move, to strike low in to the net.[LNB]That is Arsenal's first real attack.[LNB]19.58: Malouda really has the bit between his teeth, he hits a sweet half volley from inside the box which flies just over the bar.[LNB]19.55: Arsenal are all over the place in the opening exchanges, Partizan have broke that back line a couple of times now, but some great recovery defending from Denilson and a brave point blank save from Fabianski keeps the scoes level.[LNB] Poke home: Terry scores Chelsea's opener[LNB]19.53: GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 Marseille[LNB]From the resulting corner, John Terry gets a deft touch with his foot, which some how creeps between the post and Benoit Cheyrou. Exactly how not to defend a post at a corner.[LNB]19.51: What a strike that is! Florent Malouda beats his man before unleashing a viscous low drive that Steve Mandanda does great to dive low to his left to tip out for a corner.[LNB]19.50: This is Partizan's eighth attempt at trying to win in the Champions League proper, but you cannot fault their fans for that, the noise they are producing is deafening.[LNB]19.47: Slow start in both games, though Lucho Gonzalez has a shot that deflects just wide for Marseille.[LNB]19.45: Both games are underway...[LNB]19.42: Teams are out, Partizan flags absolutely everywhere in Belgrade.[LNB]19.40: I don't believe this that pylon has gone out again! The games goes ahead still though folks, carnage if another fails though.[LNB]19.36: The lights are fully on now, mind games from the home side? Partizan failed to win any of their home games last time they were in the Champions League group stage, but they failed to lose any either as they drew all three.[LNB]19.32: Money has gone in the meter, and the fourth pylon has a few flickers of light coming out, as it stands the game goes ahead at normal time, but if one or two pylons follow suit by going out it's down to the referee to decide if the game is still playable.[LNB] Rolling back the years: Dennis Wise scores against Marseille back in 2000[LNB]19.29: Chelsea and Marseille have previous in this competition meeting back in 2000 in the second group stage.[LNB]They both beat each other 1-0 at home with Dennis Wise scoring for the Blues at Stamford Bridge and a certain Robert Pires for Marseille in France.[LNB]19.27: For Chelsea though a mini crisis tonight. No Drogba, no Lampard, no Kalou, no Benayoun.[LNB]Gael Kakuta makes a start as does Yuri Zhirkov who has failed to shine since he has been at Stamford Bridge.[LNB]You would still back that side to beat Marseille though such is their strength in depth.[LNB]19.23: That pylon has failed again, a few anxious faces down on the pitch now.[LNB]19.19: Ah, 'A few' of the lights in that pylon are slowly coming on, though I don't know how that effects whether the game will go ahead.[LNB]The players and officials don't look too bothered, suggesting few problems and in truth even with three pylons the pitch looked fine to me. Will keep you updated with any developments on that folks but the game SHOULD go ahead.[LNB]19.17: More on the Arsenal game, a floodlight pylon has failed in the corner of Belgarde's ground, and it looks like the game can not go ahead unless it comes back on.[LNB]That coincides with the fact that the Arsenal team had no lights in their dressing room, apparently using lights from their mobile phones just to shed some...well light.[LNB]19.16: Team news o'clock:[LNB]Chelsea v MarseilleChelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Terry, Alex, Cole, Essien, Mikel, Zhirkov, Kakuta, Anelka, Malouda. Subs: Turnbull, Ramires, Ferreira, Sturridge, Van Aanholt, Bruma, McEachran.Marseille: Mandanda, Kabore, Diawara, M'bia Etoundi, Heinze, Gonzalez, Cisse, Cheyrou, Remy, Gignac, Brandao. Subs: Andrade, Azpilicueta, Taiwo, Hilton, Abriel, Andre Ayew, Valbuena.Referee: Frank De Bleeckere (Belgium)Partizan Belgrade v ArsenalPartizan Belgrade: Stojkovic, Stevanovic, Marko Jovanovic, Krstajic, Lazevski, Tomic, Medo, Petrovic, Sasa Ilic, Boya, Cleo. Subs: Zivkovic, Stankovic, Savic, Bogunovic, Kizito, Iliev, Smiljanic.Arsenal: Fabianski, Sagna, Djourou, Squillaci, Gibbs, Rosicky, Denilson, Song, Arshavin, Wilshere, Chamakh. Subs: Szczesny, Koscielny, Nasri, Vela, Clichy, Eboue, Lansbury.Referee: Wolfgang Stark (Germany)[LNB]19.15: For both Chelsea and Arsenal, the Champions League could not return soon enough after their disastrous defeats in the Premier League last weekend.[LNB]In fact the Champions League is a comfort zone of sorts for the two London sides who got off to a storming start in this competition, with the Blues winning 4-1 away in Zilina and the Gunners winning 6-0 at home against Braga.[LNB]Of course the main focus on the evening is in the Arsenal goalmouth, Lukasz Fabianski will start for Arsenal. You kind of feel his Arsenal career hits its watershed tonight, a poor performance could be the end of him. But if he excels Manuel Almunia may not find a way back in the side.[LNB]That's if the Arsenal games goes ahead...more on that and the team news in a moment.[LNB] Back on Song: Arsenal hope to recover from their shock defeat at the weekend[LNB] Wenger insists the wheels won't fall off Arsenal with Fabianski in goalOn the road with Arsenal...
