Wenger swooped to snap up the highly-rated former Bordeaux man after he became available on a free transfer in the close season.
A host of other clubs had said to be interested in the 26-year-old, including Tottenham and West Ham, but the Moroccan international opted for the Emirates Stadium as his next destination.
After helping Bordeaux to a Ligue 1 title in 2009 and two French League cup crowns during his eight year stint at Parc Lescure, Chamakh said he was ready to mature in order to adapt to the challenges of the Premier League.
He told the Mirror: "I still have room for improvement. I have not yet acquired all of my qualities needed to progress in another league.
"When a manager like Arsene Wenger is interested it gives you the motivation to improve."
