Cesc Fabregas tells Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger he wants to go back to Barcelona

Cesc Fabregas is understood to have told Arsene Wenger that he wants to leave Arsenal for Barcelona this summer. The midfielder flew into London from Spain for face-to-face talks with his boss following Barca's confirmation that they hoped to re-sign him before the World Cup starts. However, insiders say the Catalans are reluctant to pay more than £30million for the 23-year-old and will look to offer players in part-exchange. Stars in stripes: How Cesc Fabregas would look in a Barcelona shirt Fabregas set the scene for his departure last week by telling Spanish journalists that he hoped to return to the club where he came through the ranks before joining Arsenal as a 16-year-old. But despite consistently insisting he is in no rush to leave the Gunners, it is believed he today told Wenger the time is now right to make his dream a reality. Barca are already committing about £40m to signing David Villa fromValencia - a deal they hope to conclude this week - and do not have thesame levels of cash to spend as rivals Real Madrid. Mexicodefender Rafael Marquez, 31, is another possibility and would fitWenger's desire to add experience to a central defence which is likelyto lose William Gallas this summer. Barcelona president Joan Laporta said today: 'It is remarkablethat the player has said that. If the technical secretary (TxikiBegiristain) believes we must make aneffort, we will do and will talk to Arsenal.' Head above the parapet: Ibrahimovic (top) has been under fire Laporta also confirmed talks with Villa were on track after hisvice-president Rafael Yuste had earlier claimed: 'Both Villa and Cescwant to come and that is very important. ButCesc's signing is more complicated because long negotiations with hisclub would lie ahead.' Come home: Cesc on Spain duty Yuste was speaking after the newly re-crowned La Liga championsheld a 'technical summit' on Monday in which they discussed ways toimprove a squad which is already bursting with stars. Fabregas has been diplomatic in talking about his long-term future, but last week admitted: 'Yousee your (Spain) team-mates succeeding here (in Barcelona) and it isexciting because you have worked alongside them for so long. 'I think I would like to go to Barcelona, whether or not they want me is another thing.' However,as he has always been keen to stress, he added: 'I don't know when itwill happen. I am happy at Arsenal and I am not in a rush to leave. 'BeforeI leave for the World Cup I want my future sorted out because itbenefits nobody if I go into the tournament with something else on mymind.' However, Wenger has rarely stood in theway of those who want to leave. It remains to be seen whether the Frenchman will be keen onIbrahimovic after already lining up a deal to sign Bordeaux strikerMarouane Chamakh on a free transfer. Sweden striker Ibrahimovic has been criticised for a lacklustreseason, scoring a relatively disappointing 21 goals in 41 appearancesfor the free-scoring side since a move from Inter Milan last summerthat cost £40m plus Samuel Eto'o. Sportsmail revealedlast week that Chelsea and Manchester City had been offered the28-year-old for about £40m. Meanwhile, Toure's agent played down the prospect his player beingused in a swap deal for Fabregas, but admitted a Nou Camp exit was onthe cards for the 27-year-old. Dimitri Selcuk said: 'Toure wants to play every game. It is likely that Toure will not remain at Barcelona. 'He is happy there, it is a great club but he does not want to spend his time on the bench. 'There is a one in a thousand chance that Toure will be involved in the move for Cesc with Arsenal.' Highly rated: But Bojan (right) has struggled for first-team football
