Captain Cesc Fabregas claims he could stay at Arsenal for life after rejecting the latest speculation linking him with a return to Barcelona.

The 22-year-old Spain midfielder is continually linked with a return to the club where he started out.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently fanned the flames after suggesting that a deal to re-sign the club's former youth team star had been agreed with the Gunners.

However, Fabregas has again rejected claims that he is being lined up for an emotional return to the Camp Nou.

"This has been going for years," he explained. "I don't mind really if it happens, it happens, but it will not change the way I think.

"I do not think about it because I do not want to and I do not think I should.

"I am really looking forward to a great season with Arsenal."

Asked whether he could stay with Arsenal for the remainder of his career, he added: "Why not?

"I have never really thought about it, staying here all my life, because I am only 22 and you never know what your career will bring - but why not?

"It is my seventh season now, I am really happy, better than ever, so you never know."
