Carlos Vela dropped from Arsenal squad to face Barcelona after losing passport

Arsene Wenger said Carlos Vela was left behind for Arsenal's fateful trip to Barcelona because of 'competition for places'.

But according to reports the Mexican did not travel to Spain because he misplaced his passport.

Vela, who came off the bench in the Gunners 1-0 win over Wolves onSaturday, was surprisingly left out of Arsenal's 18-man travellingparty.

Fringe first-teamers Craig Eastmond and Fran Merida were insteadnamed on a weakened Arsenal bench, as Wenger's side were thrashed 4-1and dumped out of the Champions League by a Lionel Messi-inspiredBarcelona.

And according to the Daily Mirror, Vela could now face disciplinary action for failing to find his passport.

Vela's agent Eduardo Hernandez defended the 21-year-old, saying:'Carlos did not find his passport. He didn't mislead the club, he justdidn't know where the document was.'

The Mexican, who has 23 international caps, is expected to be one ofhis country's star performers in South Africa this summerthat's aslong as he can find his passport in time.
