Caring Redknapp feels for Jenas
Wenger told his squad earlier in the week to forget about South Africa and concentrate on club football but Redknapp wants his men fighting for places in order to catch the eye of their international managers.[LNB]The issue was apparent when he dropped Jermaine Jenas for the 9-1 win against Wigan despite the midfielder playing 90 minutes for England the weekend before.[LNB]"I've got feelings for people and players and that is why it's difficult," he said. "I really felt sorry for JJ after leaving him out. He wants to go to the World Cup and you think that would give him a right kicking leaving him out. It wasn't easy.[LNB]"I care about the players and feel for them. I feel for JJ because it's not easy to leave a lad out who's just played for his country against Brazil and thinks he might have a chance getting into the final squad. It's a dream come true for every player to go to the World Cup, surely?[LNB]"It's my job to worry about the players. I feel for them and I'm close to them. I couldn't sit here and say I couldn't give a monkeys about them. That's not me.[LNB]"I know what he must have been going through. You've got (Frank) Lampard, (Steve) Gerrard and (Gareth) Barry but there might be one or two other places - JJ is trying to force his way in and he played okay the last week. It's not easy for him to suddenly not be in Tottenham's team, and it wasn't easy for me. I didn't enjoy that."[LNB]Jenas could be recalled for the Premier League trip to Aston Villa on Saturday, with Redknapp expecting the 26-year-old to get enough club appearances to impress England boss Fabio Capello.[LNB]"It's a long season and they will play their games," Redknapp said. "JJ will play loads of games, so will Tom Huddlestone.[LNB]"They all have to be patient. Crouchy (Peter Crouch) was left out earlier in the season and he was patient. He showed a great attitude and was part of everything before the game, shook everyone's hand before the games and wished everyone the best.[LNB]"That is the type of atmosphere you need for a winning team. JJ showed that attitude and it was first class.[LNB]"It's hard when you're a regular, you feel for them because they give everything and they desperately want to go to the World Cup in South Africa. It's a great World Cup and a tournament when they could be part of a winning England team."[LNB]Redknapp has Ledley King out with a hamstring against Villa, although he has been encouraged by Luka Modric training with youth players this week as he continues his recovery from a fractured fibula.[LNB]One fan at Villa Park aimed a coin at Redknapp last year while he was Portsmouth manager, but the object hit assistant referee Phil Sharp.[LNB]"The idiot who throw the coin, hopefully he's not there anymore," Redknapp said. "I hope he's been banned. If he is there, I'll wear a crash helmet![LNB]"You are always going to get a few idiots in every ground. The idiot who threw the coin shouldn't be allowed in football ever again. They should ban him for life.[LNB]"He couldn't even throw it properly because he hit the linesman instead of me!"[LNB][LNB]
