Caldwell targets home glory
Gary Caldwell believes a heaving Parkhead can stir Celtic to a UEFA Champions League win over Arsenal.
Friday's draw ensured yet another all-British encounter pairing the Glasgow giants with Arsene Wenger's Premier League boys for a place in the group stages of Europe's top club competition.
Hoops boss Tony Mowbray has since spoken of his admiration for his Gunners counterpart while vowing to do his utmost to plot Arsenal's downfall and defender Caldwell has echoed his manager's comments.
The 27-year-old Scotland international claims unforgettable wins against Manchester United, AC Milan and Juventus on home soil demonstrate the SPL side's capabilities to cause an upset.
"It will be up to us to try to get one of our famous results and get a big victory on home soil and then see what we can get down there," Caldwell told The Herald.
"The European games at home, with our support and the kind of atmosphere they generate, are always special and this will be absolutely massive.
"It is a big glamour tie, another 'Battle of Britain', and everyone is looking forward to it. We are delighted to still be in the competition and this is an exciting game for us to look forward to.
"In a funny way, I think the first leg at home actually helps us. We will have our home crowd and if we can get a positive result then it will give us something to hold on to when we go to the Emirates, whereas if we went there first, it could be over by the time we played the second leg."
Meanwhile, Celtic will appeal the one-game ban handed to Glenn Loovens by the Scottish FA for his challenge on Maurice Edu during the Old Firm derby at Ibrox last May.
The appeal means the 25-year-old defender will be eligible to face Aberdeen at Pittodrie in the Hoops' opening game of the season.
