Bruce still wants Catt

Skysports.com understands that Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has not given up on Lee Cattermole. Indeed Bruce is ready to come back and lodge a third bid for Cattermole, despite being warned off by Wigan. Bruce, though, remains confident that he can persuade his former club Wigan to part company with the former Middlesbrough star - who he rates very highly. Cattermole had a wonderful first season with the Latics, and ended the season in prime form for Stuart Pearce's England Under 21s at the European Championship. Bruce landed Cattermole last summer in a £3.5million deal, but this time around he will have to pay at least three times that amount. New Wigan boss Roberto Martinez does not want to lose Cattermole and the club have already rejected two Sunderland bids. Cattermole himself insists he is more than happy to stay put, but the chance to return to his native North East could also hold an appeal. Arsenal and Liverpool are also known to be actively monitoring the situation, but they appear unlikely to match any offer Sunderland may make.
