Bring it on! Wenger eyeing Chelsea or Manchester United after Bendtner blitz

10 March 2010 11:03
Nicklas Bendtner silenced his critics with a hat-trick as Arsenal roared into the Champions League quarter-finals and Arsene Wenger plotted revenge on Chelsea and Manchester United.

'I have a funny feeling,' said Wenger after his stylish side demolished Porto 5-0 at The Emirates.

'Maybe it will be good for us to play an English team. We have not done well against Chelsea or Manchester United this yearand it would be good to show what we can do against them.

Hat-trick hero: Nicklas Bendtner

'I don't have a choice but if I did, I would say yes. We can't do any worse than we did in the Premier League.'

Bendtner put the Gunners2-0 up inside 25 minutes and completed his hat-trick with a penalty in stoppage time. Samir Nasri, with a brilliant solo effort, and Emmanuel Eboue scored the others.

Arsenal have lost home and away to both United and Chelsea this season but are now brimming with confidence and Wenger added: 'If I don't smile tonight I will never smile. We controlled the game, played our fluent football and had a positive start with early goals which gave us the belief.

'We did what we like to do, we won with style and always went forward in a positive way.'

Mastermind: Arsene Wenger

Bendtner, ridiculed for missing a series of easy chances against Burnley on Saturday, scored the first hat-trick of his senior career and Arsenal's first since Thierry Henry left.

He said: 'Sometimes it's one of those days and today I put it right. I'm happy with my hat-trick but tomorrow we move on.'

Wenger added: 'It shows you how quickly football can change. I hope it will not give him too much confidence. But I am happy for him.

'He had fewer chances than on Saturday. I hope it will give him the desire to work even harder.'
