Blues beaten by slick Gunners

Arsenal continued their momentum with a 3-1 Barclays Premier League win over Birmingham at the Emirates Stadium. Robin van Persie and Abou Diaby fired the Gunners into a 2-0 lead inside 18 minutes, but Lee Bowyer capitalised on a mistake by young goalkeeper Vito Mannone to pull a goal back for Blues. After soaking up plenty of pressure during the second half, Andrey Arshavin wrapped up the points for Arsenal late on as Arsene Wenger's side made it seven successive victories in all competitions this season. The Gunners were totally dominant early on and spurned several chances to take the lead before van Persie's 16th-minute opener. The Dutch strike collected a pass from Alex Song and beat Stephen Carr before drilling a shot into the far corner. Before Birmingham could recover, it was 2-0. Emmanuel Eboue put Tomas Rosicky clear down the right channel, and his cut-back from the near post went all the way through to Diaby - who smashed a first-time effort into the roof of the net. Mannone - preferred to the fit-again Manuel Almunia - dropped a deep cross from Barry Ferguson to allow Bowyer to level, but Arshavin restored Arsenal's two-goal advantage, slotting home from just inside the penalty area after a quick counter-attack.
