Better news for injured Nasri
22 Jul 2009 - 14:02:49
France international Samir Nasri could return to action by the beginning of September, according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
There had been fears that the 22-year-old could be sidelined for three months after picking up a leg injury during pre-season training.
However, speaking after watching his side beat SC Columbia in a friendly, Wenger said: "Unfortunately he fractured his fibula and will be out for six weeks. It was the bad news of the day.
"He accidentally nicked the ball away from somebody who was having a shot on goal. Unfortunately he got kicked and broke his fibula.
"It's not a complicated one, it's a simple one but it will take six weeks to heal.
"But the options are Tomas Rosicky who is back. And in two months Eduardo will be back as well. We do have offensive options but we don't want to lose important players before the season starts."
Nasri represented France at under-16, 17, 18, 19 and 21 levels before winning his first cap for his country's senior team in a friendly international against Austria in March 2007.
He scored his first international goal in his third appearance - a Euro 2008 qualifier against Georgia.
