Bendtner to miss start of season
28 Jul 2010 - 11:35:46
Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner will miss the start of the new season through injury.
The Denmark international has failed to shake off the groin injury which dogged him in the closing weeks of the last campaign and also the recent World Cup in South Africa.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has revealed that the 22-year-old will rest during the opening weeks of the new season in the hope of making a full recovery.
"Bendtner will not be available for the start of the season. We don't know (how bad he is)," he told the club's official website.
Meanwhile, Wenger has given a more positive update on the fitness of several other key members of his first-team squad.
He added: "Denilson should be (fit) - maybe not for the Emirates Cup but for the Warsaw game and (Abou) Diaby as well.
"(Cesc) Fabregas and (Robin) van Persie are due to come back on 5th August and from then on we will see how much build-up work is needed physically and as well how they have recovered mentally from the World Cup.
"They might be short for the first game (of the new season) but I don't know, that will depend on the fitness work they have done during the holiday."
Defender Johan Djourou and midfielder Tomas Rosicky will also be ready for the start of the campaign despite picking up pre-season niggles.
