Bendtner insists an act of God allowed him to escape death in horror crash

Nicklas Bendtner insists he was saved from death by a 'miracle' after surviving his horrific car crash. The Arsenal striker was left badly shaken and bruised after crashing his £120,000 Aston Martin into a tree on the way to the club's London Colney training last Sunday. Bendtner was forced to miss Tuesday night's Champions League win over Olympiakos after suffering bruises to his knees and pain in his shoulder after the accident and had trained on his own ever since. But the 21-year-old Denmark international, who hopes to return to action against Blackburn on Sunday, admits he is grateful simply to be alive after giving a full account of the terrifying smash. Bendtner believes that an act of God is the only reason he was able to walk away from the wreckage of his car. He said: 'Someone took care of me out there on the road. I don't know what or who, but in a larger picture, there simply was someone who helped me. I firmly believe that it just wasn't the time for me to leave this life. 'The police and everyone else at the scene told me I would have been dead if I hadn't been wearing my seat belt. 'They actually called it a miracle that the accident didn't end with me dead, or at least severely injured. 'It was a huge shock. But I do not need a psychologist to find myself after the accident. I went out driving in my other car the day after, and it was no problem. 'I feel fine, although my shoulder is very sore. I have also got a number of cuts and bruises, and my knees were smashed together when a small tree came in through the car door. 'My knees are really bruised, but there is nothing broken or torn inside. 'I have been training alone, have been well examined and have had plenty of massage on my back, which has been hurting a lot. But I am training with my team-mates again, and the plan is I can play on Sunday.' Bendtner has also insisted that the accident was not caused by him driving too fast or recklessly, but as a result of trying to avoid an oncoming car on the A1. 'Some people have claimed my speed was 100mph. I don't know where that rubbish comes from, but it is not true,' Bendtner said. 'It doesn't matter to me if anyone says I was driving too fast because I know exactly what happened second by second. I did not pass out at any time. 'I wasn't driving that fast at all - not even close. I have talked to the police, and there will be no case against me, because I simply was not driving that fast. 'The whole reason for the accident was that another car pulled in front of me in the left lane. I realised that if I didn't react I would smash directly into it. 'I had the time to think that things could go horribly wrong, that I could die right there. 'I pulled the steering wheel hard to the right to avoid the other car, but as a result I was thrown across the road and hit a number of small trees. 'I finally ended up in a field with my car totally wrecked. 'I am simply relieved that I was able to get out of the car and walk away.'
