Barcelona eye Fernando Torres in swap with Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Barcelona's chase for Cesc Fabregas has been nudged down the Catalans' priority list after new president Sandro Rossell and manager Pep Guardiola ear-marked Liverpool's Fernando Torres as their primary target. The Spanish champions want the Liverpool striker to form a formidable partnership with international team-mate David Villa who moved to the Nou Camp this summer for £35m. However Barca face competition from Chelsea for 26-year-old Torres yet believe they hold the trump card in being able to offer Zlatan Ibrahimovic in return. Merry-go-round: Liverpool's Fernando Torres is wanted by Barcelona in a desperate bid to offload Zlatan Ibrahimovic Rossell is desperate to offload the Swede in order to free up funds for a new raft of signings but Guardiola wants to retain Ibra, who only joined the club only last summer. The manager would rather see Dmytro Chyrgrynskiy, Alex Hleb, Martin Caceras and other fringe members of the squad sold, and has told Rossell to listen to offers. Torres' future at Anfield has been in doubt after a desperately disappointing season left Liverpool without Champions League football next season. Ibra, meanwhile, was considered a flop in Spain despite scoring 20 goals in 41 appearances. Come and get it: Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas had been expected to tie up a move to Barcelona before the World Cup Rossell has pleaded for a period of financial maturity at Barcelona and a sell-to-buy attitude has been adopted. The club will not be bullied by Arsenal into paying over the odds for Fabregas but plan to use money raised from Yaya Toure's imminent deflection to Manchester City to top up their original offer to the Gunners. Spanish newspaper 'Sport' speculates that if Barcelona fail to agree a swap deal involving Torres, they will turn their attention to a similar deal involving Ibrahimovic and Robinho.  Fabregas should forget about move to Barca, says old Arsenal pal GilbertoDes Kelly: Under-pressure Spain ride in to save the World (Cup)Yaya Toure set to seal £25m Man City switch but Barca rebuff Dani Alves approachGet Fabregas!
