Barcelona wait on Fabregas to hand in transfer request before launching raid

Barcelona are relying on Cesc Fabregas to hand in a transfer request and force a move to the Nou Camp. Pep Guardiola is desperate to add the 22-year-old to his European Cup-winning squad this summer, but the Barca money men have made it clear they do not intend to bid more than £25million for a player valued at £40m by Arsenal. Time is running out to break the impasse. Fabregas would be cup-tied from the Champions League if Arsenal use him against Celtic on Tuesday, leaving Barca hoping he drive down the price by insisting on a move. The Spaniards are intrigued by the idea of a 'written transfer request', a concept which doesn't exist across the Bay of Biscay, and believe it played an important role in Xabi Alonso's move from Liverpool to Real Madrid.
