Barcelona are set to make their latest offer to Arsenal in an effort to bring the long-running transfer saga of Cesc Fabregas to an end.

The proposed deal will be worth ?36million - a fixed bid of ?26m with ?10m of add-ons based on appearances and the club's success after Fabregas's return to the Nou Camp.

The move is being handled by Barca president Sandro Rosell, who left the club's tour of the United States on Sunday.

It is also understood that the way the payments would be structured means Arsenal, who value the midfielder at ?40m, would receive only around a third of the fixed fee - ?8.6m - as a down payment.

Arsenal have said they want the matter decided one way or the other by the end of the week. Wenger still hopes to tie up a deal for Valencia midfielder Juan Mata who is valued at ?22m and is also wanted by Tottenham.

Fabregas has played no part in the Gunners' pre-season because of a combination of a hamstring injury and Wenger believing the Spain international is not in the right frame of mind.

His last game was at the end of April so he would be struggle to be fit for the start of the English or Spanish season.
