Atletico enter Reyes race
24 Aug 2006 - 18:22:36
Atletico Madrid have confirmed they have made a bid for unsettled Arsenal forward Jose Antonio Reyes.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Atletico's bitter rivals Real Madrid for the past few months, but they were unable to agree a fee with the Gunners.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo now hopes to snatch Reyes from under the nose of Real.
"We have made quite a considerable offer and we are waiting for a reply from Arsenal," Cerezo told Marca.
"If they say 'yes' we will be delighted. If not, then we will continue as we are. His arrival wouldn't mean any player would have to leave."
Press reports suggested Atletico's offer is worth around £8million, which is only half of Arsenal's valuation of the Spain international.
