Arshavin writes off Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League

Andrey Arshavin believes Arsenal will fail in their bid to win the Barclays Premier League this season because they did not buy enough new players in the summer. The Gunners sit second in the table just two points behind Manchester United and two ahead of Chelsea but Russian star Arshavin says the lack of strength in depth will hamper his side's title challenge. Forward Arshavin claims boss Arsene Wenger's lack of summer signings - along with injuries to Robin van Persie, Kieran Gibbs and Aaron Ramsey - leaves them at a disadvantage to the club's rivals. Critical: Arshavin says Arsenal need to sign new experienced players to win title He also insists the Arsenal squad still lack experience and will notwin any trophies until Wenger splashes the cash or players with wiser heads. 'I am still of the opinion that to win trophies Arsenal needs more players,' Arshavin is quoted as saying in The Sun. Too hard to win: Russian star Arshavin has talked down Arsenal's chances of success this season 'There is the simple fact that last summer we sold two players and bought only one. 'So there is an obvious deficit of at least one. Then we lost Van Persie, Gibbs and Ramsey for a long time. So for me it is natural we need new players. 'Without the variety of players we have less diversity in attack. 'That allows our opponents to read our combinations more easily. Finally, it results in less ball possession for us and our defence comes under more pressure. 'The Premier League is very interesting, at least as long as we continue fighting to win it. But without new experienced players, real stars, it will be difficult to achieve success. 'Ideally we need three or four such experienced players and then among our youths there should be guys who are not only good at playing football but have real character.'  Thomas Vermaelen loses bid to have red card overturned as Arsenal star is banned for Birmingham City clash Jay-Z hints at Arsenal investment as rap superstar admits he fell Crazy in Love with Gunners thanks to Thierry Henry ARSENAL FC
