Arshavin - We should spend

Andrey Arshavin has called on Arsenal to raid the transfer market if they are to challenge for silverware this season. The Gunners have made an impressive start to the season, scoring 10 goals in convincing victories over Everton and Portsmouth, while also seizing the upper hand in their UEFA Champions League qualifier with Celtic. Arsene Wenger has lost the services of both Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure to Manchester City, with former Ajax defender Thomas Vermaelen his only notable addition. Arshavin believes the Emirates Stadium side need to match the spending power of Europe's leading sides as they look to end their recent trophy drought. First-classThe Russia international playmaker told the Sunday Times: "We still have to buy. That's my opinion. "We shouldn't set Everton as a benchmark, we should be looking at the top teams of Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona. "We should buy first-class players, regardless of their age. We should buy the ones who should improve our game. "The top teams have much bigger squads than ours and that is why we have to buy."
