Arshavin celebrates his 100th goal by calling for Arsenal to sign a real striker

Andrey Arshavin scored his 100th career goal after being deployed as a makeshift centre forward at the weekend - but the Russia striker insists he is not the answer to Arsenal's woes. [LNB]The 28-year-old has scored most of his century playing through the middle, though he is usually deployed down the left wing by Arsene Wenger. [LNB]However, injuries to Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner thrust the little master to centre stage during the 2-0 defeat of Stoke City, even if he was a reluctant spearhead. 'I played at the edge of attack because of the many injures to other forwards.' [LNB]With Holland striker Van Persie ruled out for much of the rest of the season, Wenger is in the market for reinforcements in January, and Arshavin has called for big-name signings. [LNB]Arsenal may be out of the Carling Cup and trailing Chelsea in the race for the Barclays Premier League title, but Arshavin insists the club are still chasing Treble glory at home and in the Champions League. [LNB]The February signing from Zenit St Petersburg revealed he is unlikely to play against Olympiakos on Wednesday after picking up a knock against Stoke, but he says the Emirates Stadium injury epidemic has not dimmed the club's spirit. [LNB]'The goals of Arsenal remain the same: victory in every tournament,' he said. [LNB]Arshavin is the 24th Russian to score 100 career goals, though he is not dwelling on the achievement.[LNB] [LNB]Highlight: Arshavin put four past Liverpool[LNB]'On the one hand this event, scoring the 100th goal, is very pleasant,' he said. 'When I started playing football I could not even dream about it. [LNB]'But on the other hand there are many players who scored 200 or 300 goals in their career so I should not overestimate my own achievements. [LNB]'The match was easy for our team, we seized the initiative from the first moments. And as a centre forward I had many chances to start my second century, but managed to score only once.' [LNB]Arshavin counts the four he scored against Liverpool last season as among the most memorable of his career, though it was a goal at Euro 2008 that lives most fondly in his memory. [LNB]'Probably the goal against Holland was the best in terms of the keeper I most managed to annoy. It was (Edwin) van der Sar, a goalkeeper of world renown, and I scored between his legs.'  [LNB] Arsenal 2 Stoke 0: Arshavin inspires Diddy Men as Gunners leapfrog Spurs Chelsea and United don't get as many injuries as Arsenal, says boss WengerArsenal 2 Stoke City 0: Victory tainted by injuries to Rosicky and EduardoReal Madrid join Barcelona in race to sign Arsenal captain Cesc FabregasWenger admits: 'Yes, I'm a bad loser,' after Hughes cup spatARSENAL FC
