Arshavin backed to shine

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes fans can expect to see more from Andrey Arshavin this season. The Gunners snapped up the Russia international in the January transfer window and already he has shown glimpses of his undoubted talent. Arshavin demonstrated his silky skills with a blistering four-goal haul against Liverpool at Anfield last April. Wenger believes with a good pre-season under his belt and an increased knowledge of England's top-flight he will improve even more this season. Arshavin proved he is on song on the eve of the new season after scoring twice off the bench in Saturday's Emirates Cup win over Atletico Madrid. "The difference is now he knows how English football works," explained Wenger. "He knows as well he is part of the team from the start, and the team knows how important and how big an impact he can have on the results. "Arshavin has what you cannot give to a player - he understands when there is an opportunity in the final third, and is certainly dangerous." Expectations Tomas Rosicky continued his quest towards full fitness against the Liga outfit, although Wenger is not expecting too much too soon from the Czech ace. "I am pleased, but cautious," Wenger said. "I am not a dreamer. "If he gets through the next two months without set-backs, then we have won the battle, but it is not won yet."
