Arsene relief at comeback
// A bit of a hack but it works// The article snippet is wrapped onto a second line, even when #article-sub is emptyif( $("div#article-sub").children().length == 0 ) {$("div#article-sub").remove();} Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger felt his side earned 'three difficult points' after recording a dramatic comeback in their UEFA Champions League Group H tie against Standard Liege.[LNB] The Gunners found themselves 2-0 down after a wretched start in Belgium but a goal from Nicklas Bendtner late in the first half handed Wenger's charges hope.[LNB]After dominating possession in the second period, Arsenal found an equaliser through Thomas Vermaelen before Eduardo sealed the fightback in the 81st minute.[LNB]Wenger, who was without a number of key personnel, was pleased with the character demonstrated by his players in an intense atmosphere at Stade Maurice Dufrasne.[LNB]He told Sky Sports: "It was hard work because we got a big blow from the start, we were 2-0 down.[LNB]"They started sharper maybe, they caught us cold. We were a bit slow at the start and they took advantage of it.[LNB]"What happened to us can happen to any team in the world, and to win a game against a very motivated team you need to work very hard and that's what we did.[LNB]Stunned"We put every effort into coming back to win. Certainly getting to 2-1 just before half-time helped. We had no choice but to give everything in the second 45 minutes.[LNB]"We had a lot of possession (in the second half) and in every single one-against-one they put everything in, and that made it difficult. It was a very difficult game.[LNB]"I look at the list of players who did not play tonight and I believe this tells you a lot about our squad and our spirit. Three difficult points, that is a very good start for us.[LNB]"After two disappointments in the league, it was very important for us to win tonight."[LNB]Wenger also reserved praise for centre-back Vermaelen, adding: "He is a good defender and as well he is strong on set-pieces. I think he had an outstanding game again tonight. He adapted very well."[LNB]
