Jack Wilshere finally ended his injury nightmare on Saturday as the Arsenal midfielder was named in his club's starting line-up for their Premier League clash against QPR.

The 20-year-old has been sidelined since before the start of last season after battling ankle and knee injuries, but he has stepped up his return in recent weeks in a series of Arsenal Under-21 matches.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had initially claimed he would give Wilshere, who was an unused substitute for Arsenal's last Premier League match at Norwich, his first start in next week's League Cup tie at Reading.

But, with the team in need of a boost after two successive defeats, Wenger opted to bring Wilshere back into his midfield for the London derby against struggling QPR at the Emirates Stadium.
