Arsenal's Johan Djourou out for season estimates Arsène Wenger
With Kolo Toure having been sold to Manchester City, it means that Mikael Silvestre and Philippe Senderos will be the main back-up this season to his first choice pairing of William Gallas and Thomas Vermaelen.
"Johan is six to eight months," said Wenger. "He had big surgery, and it is a big blow for him and the club. He will have to be patient this season."
Arsenal will also be without Andrei Arshavin, who has a groin injury, for the next three games, while Theo Walcott will also definitely miss the matches against Manchester City this weekend and the Champions League group game with Standard Liege next Wednesday.
Samir Nasri is continuing his rehabilitation from a broken leg, although Tomas Rosicky and Cesc Fabregas should both be available to play Manchester City.
Wenger will learn on Monday whether Uefa intend to uphold Eduardo's two-game European ban when Arsenal's appeal will go before Uefa's Appeals Body.
