Arsenal striker Eduardo's season over due to fresh injury
Published : 02 May 2009 11:04:57
The injury came during Arsenal's 1-0 Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to United at Old Trafford, when the Croatian international came on as a late substitute. No blame has been apportioned to Ferdinand, but Wenger admits that Eduardo is distraught by the latest piece of misfortune he has been forced to endure. He is really distraught,' said Wenger. 'Since he came back it seems every single little thing that can happen to him happens. 'We watched the incident again in slow motion and there was nothing he could do. 'He had absolutely no chance to escape. He was on the ground and Rio fell on him. 'It was just a bad coincidence.' With Eduardo now missing the return leg against United at the Emirates Stadium, Wenger also confirmed that Gael Clichy will not play and Mikael Silvestre and Robin van Persie are doubtful for the crucial match. '[Silvestre] will be short for Tuesday,' said Wenger. 'Clichy is out of it and Van Persie we will assess very late, on Tuesday morning or afternoon, but I don't know his chances. 'We don't know if Van Persie will be available, if he is 100 per cent fit he has a very good chance, if he is not he will not play in a game of that stature, that is for sure.'
