Arsenal monitoring Klaas striker
The need for Arsenal to add some extra-dimension in the striker department and at the very least provide some cover for Olivier Giroud has long been mooted. Rumour has it that Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar could be snapped up after reportedly (The Mirror) refusing to negotiate over his contract terms and may be looking to join a club where he could win silverware.
With Arsenal breaking their trophy duck and looking a far better outfit than in recent years it could be a fine time to make the trip to the Emirates and would also be a cheaper alternative to the more mercurial talent of Mario Balotelli and the currently high-profile Alexis Sanchez.
The Express has reported that Wenger is very keen on the Dutchman and is monitoring him with a transfer bid in mind. With Liverpool also reported to be interested and both having looked at the player in the past this could go either way.
The 30-year-old would bring a lot of experience but wouldn’t be a long-term solution with perhaps a few years left in the tank as an outfield player at the highest level. Huntelaar is currently playing at the World Cup and came on as a sub to score the winning penalty for the Dutch against Mexico.
Huntelaar started his senior career at PSV in 2002, moved to Ajax in 2006 and Real Madrid in 2009. Most of his appearances has been as a Schalke 04 player with 100 appearances and 59 goals. The forward has made 63 senior Netherlands appearances, scoring 35 goals.
