Arsenal hit by Thomas Vermaelen calf injury blow

Arsenal's slim title chances have suffered another crushing blow after defender Thomas Vermaelen was today ruled out for 'two to three weeks' after suffering a calf injury in last night's 2-1 defeat at Tottenham. The Belgium international had to be replaced after just 19 minutes at White Hare Lane and joins fellow first choice centre-half William Gallas on the sidelines. Injury blow: Crocked Thomas Vermaelen will miss the next two to three weeks 'Certainly it is a calf strain. (He will be out for) two to three weeks,' said Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, speaking to the club's official website.   Vermaelen has been an ever-present for the Gunners since his £10million arrival from Ajax last summer, missing only one Premier League game this season and that was due to suspension, absent during last month's 1-0 win over Wolves. Sol Campbell and Mikael Silvestre are expected to continue their partnership at the back, with Vermaelen a certainty to miss this weekend's trip to lowly Wigan and the club's Emirates clash against fourth place Manchester City on April 24.  Wenger admits Arsenal's title chances are over after defeat against SpursArsenal: Barca won't buy Fabregas... he's not good enough for them!Barcelona deny deal to call off Cesc Fabregas bid and insist Arsenal star could return this summerARSENAL RFC
