Both sides come into the encounter at the Emirates Stadium off the back of losses and also have long injury lists.

Young English stars Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs are expected to start for the home side as they continue to be without Robin van Persie (ankle) and Gael Clichy (back).

Other notable absentees for Arsene Wenger's side include Abou Diaby (calf) and Nicklas Bendtner (groin) as well as Lukasz Fabianski and Johan Djourou (both knee).

With two key strikers out, the Frenchman could hand a start to Mexican Carlos Vela, who made a brief 20 minute cameo during their 1-0 loss to Sunderland at the weekend.

Standard are also missing key players such as Milan Jovanovic, who has not travelled to North London. Although the Serbian is closing in on a return to fitness he will not be risked, despite the must-win nature of the game.

A slip up against their more illustrious opponents could allow Olympiakos, who can also qualify with victory over AZ Alkmaar if Liege lose, to take advantage.

The Belgians lost to KAA Gent at the weekend and will also be missing Steven Defour (foot), Mohamed Sarr (hamstring), Cedric Collet and Igor de Camargo (both broken toe).

Former Hearts manager Laszlo Bodnar's team will want to put their lasr meeting behind them, as Liege led Arsenal 2-0 within the first five minutes before surrendering and ended up losing 3-2.
