The Spaniard was injured in Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Birmingham at the weekend after a heavy challenge by Craig Gardener left him limping but he was not substituted.

After the match Wenger could not confirm whether Fabregas would be fit for selection against the current European Champions.

'He was caught just below the knee and if that is not a foul in football, then I don't know what is.

'Will Cesc be fit to face Barcelona on Wednesday? I don't know. He will have to go in for treatment and we will have to see how bad the injury is. We tried to take him off but he said he was all right.'

Fàbregas is the latest name in an ever-increasing list of casualties at Arsenal. Wenger has also confirmed that Abou Diaby, Samir Nasri and Andrei Arshavin will not be fit enough to start on Wednesday but should make the bench.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are not without their injury worries. Pep Guardiola will be without Andres Iniesta for the first of the two ties after the midfielder picked up a hamstring injury in the side's 1-0 win over Majorca.
