Arsenal to launch bid for Madrid icon?

Arsenal are monitoring Iker Casillas' situation; as the Real Madrid keepers' future remains uncertain.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Arsenal have made an enquiry about the 32-year-olds availability. New Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti opted for Diego Lopez over the legendary Spaniard for Real's first game of the season against Real Betis; and has stuck with the Brazilian for Madrid's second league game against Granada.

Arsenal have been in the market for a keeper' and have recently been linked with QPR's Julio Cesar and Valencias Vicente Guaita; as Arsenal look to bolster their goalkeeping ranks. Current no.1, Wojciech Szczesny has had a mixed start to the season and there are doubts about whether he will fulfil his potential.

Casillas, has been with the club since he was a child, and is the current club captain, but with the World Cup next summer, he will need to be playing regular first team football.

Rival Spanish goalkeeper's David de Gea, Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina are No.1 choices for Manchester United, Barcelona and Napoli respectively.
