Arsenal talks confirmed by 24-year-old Villarreal defender

More good news for Arsenal today after their 2-0 away win over Manchester City, defensive target Gabriel Paulista of La Liga side Villarreal has confirmed transfer talks are ongoing with the London club.

Paulista has been hugely impressive for the Spanish side who have gone unbeaten since November and is seen as the solution to Arsenal's defensive problems, providing cover to the Gunners injury mauled defensive line-up.

One potential issue with any transfer is the fact that the centre-back doesn't hold a European passport and has never been capped by Brazil, meaning obtaining a work permit could be tricky for the 24-year-old.

It's thought Villarreal would also want fringe player Joel Campbell as a sweetener to any potential deal for Paulista with a starting fee of around £5million currently being mentioned.

Talking to the Metro, the Brazilian centre-back reveals that playing in the Premier League would be a dream come true:

‘The subject is being discussed by my agent and the club,’ Paulista said.

‘If I go to Arsenal it will be excellent. But if it’s not finalised then I am relaxed. I am focused on my work here.

‘My agent is working on making sure I continue being calm.

‘Playing in the Premier League is one of my dreams. I have spoken to my agent about this.’
