Arsenal rumour involving Brazilian wonder kid Bernard

There was growing speculation Arsene Wenger and Arsenal were set to announce their first major signing of the summer with Brazilian international Bernard. Many sources were reacting to ESPN reports of a deal being struck between the two clubs.

It was believed that Arsenal had agreed to pay the €25m (£21m) needed to lure the Atletico Mineiro man to the Premier League. However the source which came in the form of a tweet seems to be a hoax and no official reference point seems to exist.

Bernard, who plays predominantly on the left side of the midfield, was part of Brazil’s Confederations Cup winning squad and is considered one of the hottest prospects in South American football.

Wenger has targeted a number of high profile additions, seemingly moving in on the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Marouane Fellaini - however a move for Bernard is perhaps more in keeping with the Gunners boss’s transfer policy.

Bernard has made 97 appearances for Belo Horizonte based side Atletico Mineiro, scoring 21 goals in the process.
