Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to sign Chelsea pair Alex and Salomon Kalou as he looks to add strength and experience to the Arsenal squad.

The Brazilian centre Alex has already had his transfer request accepted by Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas. Salomon Kalou is also seen as a back up option and so Villas-Boas may also be looking to trim him from the large Chelsea squad.

The Arsenal defence has been struggling this season they have conceded a huge 23 goals in 14 matches. Arsene has seen Per Mertesacker find it hard to adapt to the Premier League. Thomas Vermaelen has been having difficulties with injury which have only allowed him to start just 11 times in the last 18 months.

Salomon Kalou has been in the eyes of Wenger for some time as the Arsenal manager has publicly stated his admiration for the Ivory Coast international. Kalou could also bring another dimension of attack for Arsenal because currently they rely on Robin Van Persie for most of their goals.

Wenger is said to be willing to offer £8m for Kalou. Although Kalou will be ruled out for at least a month as he takes part in the African Nations Cup.
