Arsenal open talks with Barcelona over David Villa transfer

Reports today suggest that Arsenal have opened talks with Barcelona over a possible move for Spanish international David Villa. As per usual twitter has exploded with nonsense and rumours as to how much it would cost to bring him to North London - £13,000,000 seems to be the most talked about figure. But for a 31-year-old who seems a little past his best, is it really worth the money?

Sure there are many cheaper options than David Villa, but they wouldn't have the already proven class that Villa possesses - A signing like this could save Arsenal's season. At this moment in time, the Gooners sit fifth place in the Barclays Premier League and missing out on the all important top four could cost Arsenal dearly, a lot more than £13,000,000.

David Villa's goalscoring record really does speak for itself; in the 62 appearances he has made to Barcelona he has scored 28 goals. Before joining the Catalonian club he scored an amazing 108 goals in 166 games for La Liga rivals Valencia - the stats don't lie.

The £13,000,000 figure is not confirmed, nor is the transfer. But if Arsene does manage to pull off such a transfer it could be just the antidote to give Arsenal that extra push to ensure Champions League football next season. Should Arsene fail in his attempts it could prove costly.
