Arsenal are thought to be favourites to land Napoli hitman Gonzalo Higuain in the summer as the striker targets Champions League football next season with Napoli looking increasingly unlikely to qualify unless they win the Europa League this season.

Napoli were beaten by Roma at the weekend which has made their task even more difficult than it was as they are currently 6th in Serie A with only the top 3 assured Champions League football. Napoli have endured a poor run of form with the last five matches yielding three defeats and two draws.

The 27-year-old Argentine striker made his name at Real Madrid where he made 190 appearances and scored 107 league goals. The players two season spell at Napoli has provided a similar average goal-tally which would be very useful to Wenger as he looks to build on this season.

A report in the Telegraph states that the player has told friends that he does not want to play in the Europa League again next season which could even rule out Liverpool who are also thought to be interested in the player and are also not in a favourable position to secure Champions League football next season.

Higuain is noted for his ability to hold up the ball his great pace supporting counter-attacks and superb striking ability which has contributed to a great collection of honours in Serie A, La-Liga and as an individual.
