Arsenal Make Sensational Bid for Everton Midfielder Marouane Fellaini

It is understood that Arsenal have made a 22million pound bid for Marouane Fellaini using a release clause in his contract. It is assumed by insiders that the deal should be completed in a couple of weeks.

The 25 year old midfielder would greatly enhance the current Arsenal squad and can be used in either the attacking or defending position. The move comes on the heels of Everton appointing Roberto Martinez as the new manager. Fellaini had been rumored for the last couple months of making a move to Chelsea or following former boss, David Moyes to Manchester United. United are in desperate need of securing someone like Fellaini to bolster their midfield now that Paul Scholes has retired.

Arsenal have a war chest of around £100 million to spend in the summer transfer market and have made a big splash by acquiring the Belgian. It is by far the largest sum of money that Arsenal has ever had to spend in any transfer market. Arsene Wenger has been a long-time admirer of the Fellaini, who joined the Merseyside club from Standard Liege in 2008.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright admitted today that it would be hard to hold onto players since David Moyes has left the club. Kenwright has been worried that several of his key players would be leaving Everton in search of clubs that have Champions League berths and that would be willing to pay higher wages. Leighton Baines has been rumoured for some time to be on Manchester United’s radar and there is a strong possibility that Baines will also be leaving soon.

Arsenal have already made a few smaller moves for players like Keeper, Julio Cesar but their pursuit of Fellaini will send shockwaves through English football. This transfer could start the feeding frenzy that everyone has been waiting for.
