Arsenal Hope To Sign Ridiculed United Defender In January

Injuries of all kinds have occurred at Arsenal and Arsene Wenger will have to be making everything in his power to fix it in the upcoming transfer window.

With Mertesacker and Koscienly as the only two complete centre backs at the club, and Chambers who is primarily a right back, the French gaffer has found himself with lack of defenders, due to selling Thomas Vermaelen, Johan Djorou and Ignasi Miquel this summer.

More and more problems arrived at the Emirates, as Koscielny and Debuchy got ruled out for Achilles tendon problems. Then, a transfer rumour including booed Chris Smalling emerged a couple of days ago, according to the Mirror.

The 24-year-old received critics for being sent off in the Manchester derby last week and was even called 'stupid' by his current manager, Louis van Gaal. Smalling has been a United player since January 2010 when he moved to Old Trafford from Fulham.

This £10m defender could be leaving Manchester for half of his value. He was, despite the red card versus City, named by Roy Hodgson for qualifiers against Scotland and Slovenia. Wenger still has a few defenders on his mind for the winter transfer window, including Mats Hummels. Who will be completing a deal to London within three months?
