Sterling has been frequently linked with a move away from Anfield with the popular destination being Madrid but it seems now that the player could stay in the Premier League.

All of this speculation is of course fuelled by his present contract situation which has been subject to delays due to changes with his representatives as well as alleged rejections of the offers put before him to stay at Liverpool.

Reports in the Independent suggest that the stance of Liverpool has changed to one of limited flexibility and that the player has turned down a chance to earn £100k per week with a new long-term Reds deal and that Sterling is looking to secure a comparable deal to that enjoyed by Daniel Sturridge.

The 20-year-old wants to play regular Champions League football says the report and is thought to prefer a more forward role rather than being out on the wing. All these issues point to the exit at Anfield, especially after it emerged that there was no guarantee that Sterling would stay even if the winger was offered more than Sturridge.

Their would be no shortage of suitors with the player being named Europe’s best young player at the “Golden Boy” awards with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich thought to be interested.

A figure of £50million has been suggested with Manuel Pellegrini thinking that signing Sterling could cost as much as £100million. Reports in the Metro have suggested that Arsenal have joined the race to sign Sterling and suggest that the players own preference would be to stay in the Premier League.
